Chairmans Message
First of all, may i thank you for visiting this web site where you can access information concerning Community First and it's aims and ideals. Community First quite simply is a group of people who are commited to their local communities. It is becomming quite clear that in the centralising of Budgets and Services, local issues are being sidelined and ignored, in effect centralisation equates with contradiction of local amenities. When the Government states that a particular budget has been increased by X millions of pounds, it is becoming progressively more difficult to accept that there are local benefits with these budgets, when to get to the nearest Hospital at Blackburn, you have to tavel along roads with a surface that wouldn't be out of place in an underdeveloped Country. Community First doesn't hide behind party promises that ignore the reality and effect of what having a limited budget will actually mean to the Community.
Rather Community First will give voice to ask why our Community is being ignored or sidelined.
Community First has already been sucessful with local issues such as roads, drainage, bus shelters and street lighting.
If you want to join us and add your voice to the growing concern about the lack of accountability and ask for answers to questions like; Why when our Rates are increasing, are our local amenities decreasing, then do not hesitate, contact any of the members of Community First.

A Little bit of Background about our
Councillors
All About Cllr R A Neal
I've been an elected member since 1987 as a Whitworth Town Councillor and I have been a member of Rossendale Borough Council since 1988 to date.
In 1990/91 and 2003/04 I served has the town mayor, then in 1999/200 I was the mayor of Rossendale Borough Council.
From 1987 until now I have been a serving member of Lancashire Association of Local Councils, where I served as the chairman from 1998 until 2001 of this association.
From 1987 until December 2003 I served as a member of Rochdale Community Health Council.
In 2004 I was the only true independant candidate for the Northwest Region, for the european elections.
Since 1987 I have served as a member of the Healey Dell Joint Management Commitee and at this moment in time, I am the chairman of this commitee.
If you wish to contact me please email me through this website.
All About Cllr K Ruane
A Rose between two thorns!
In May 2007, our community in Healey and Whitworth elected me to serve as their representative on Whitworth Town Council.
After a period of settling into this new and exciting venture, I have brought residents concerns over road resurfacing, land drainage, dog fouling, street lighting and more recently crime, to the town council and through them to the Borough Council and the County Coucil.
As a member of the Tourism and Leisure Committee I have been active in organising the annual New Years Day Duck Race at Cown reservoir, resurrecting the Rush Cart Procession, organising the first St Georges Day Parade in Whitworth, in April 2008, both of which are being celebrated again this year.
I am local neighbourhood watch co-ordinator, a member of Springhill Hospice Whitworth Support Group and Trust Secretary for Sunnybank Day Care Centre and Sunnyside Rest Home.
National legislation often misses the point of what a community is and therefore is more often than not ignorant of it's detrimental effect on a community.
Community First appeals to me, because it gives me a chance to deal with community problems, free from Party Polotics.
All About Cllr D Bradbury
Born 1947 in Darwen (Known locally has "Darren")
Mmm, that will suprise many, a Northern lad with a southern accent, well, having spent 30years in the smoke and the southerners not able to able to understand a decent accent, I had to get the lingo!
I moved into Whitworth (Known locally has "Wituth") about six years back in 2003.
I have spent the last 40years has a lorry driver and travelled most of this country and much of the continent.
To be one of your local town councillors is an honour not taken lightly, even though I was talked into it by someone most of you reading this will already know?
I am a member of your local motorbike club (Whitworth Warriors Mcc) so many may already know me, or even may wish that they didn't, when we try to raise funds for local Whitworth Charities.
Maybe not quite all about me but we all have a tale to tell and I don't want to bore you!! |
